Carol Crawford in her habitatCarol L Crawford has a BSc in Ecological Sciences with Honours in Resource Management (1978) and an MPhil on Wildlife Habitat Changes in Lowland Scotland (1983), both from Edinburgh University.  She has 33 years experience as an Ecologist, including 15 as a Chartered Forester. Before setting up the Natural Resource Consultancy in 1987 she worked in research at Edinburgh University and in environmental education in Edinburgh and Malawi. After Africa she worked in a forestry and conservation consultancy in east Scotland before setting up NRC in 1987.

Carol talking to the Princess Royal about wildlife habitats at The Carrick golf course, at its openingShe is well experienced in:vegetation survey, particularly Phase 1 Habitat Survey, National Vegetation Classification (NVC) and woodland surveys; ecological impact assessment; research; education; project management; preparing woodland and other habitat management plans. Specialist areas include native woodlands, peatlands, coasts and golf courses. In 2001 she produced Bryophytes of Native Woods; a beginner’s photo-guide to woodland mosses and liverworts and she has recently published papers on ancient woodland indicator plants in Scotland - see Publications for more details.

Carol L Crawford is a Full Member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters (1996) and a Founder Member of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM) (1991). She has held voluntary positions with IEEM, Native Woodlands Discussion Group, Scottish Wildlife Trust and the South West Association of Nature Conservationists.  She is currently on the Ayrshire Local Biodiversity Action Plan Coastal sub-group and on the SW Scotland committee of the Royal Scottish Forestry Society.
